eSIM Turkey: Mobile Data From the Moment You Land
With an eSIM Turkey data plan from Anosim, your phone goes online as soon as you arrive in Istanbul, Antalya or Izmir. The one thing that matters for Turkey is timing: buy the eSIM and install it at home before your flight, then switch it on after landing. This page shows which cities have coverage, what to prepare and how to receive SMS codes during the trip. All other destinations are on the eSIM overview.
Why Turkey travellers install the eSIM at home
Most people want data the minute the plane reaches the gate: to message the hotel, open a ride app or find the transfer. That is why we recommend buying your eSIM for Turkey before departure and installing it while you are still at home.
Installing needs an internet connection, because the phone downloads the eSIM profile when you scan the QR code. At home your own Wi-Fi does the job; after landing you would first have to find a network. Installing early has no downside either, since the plan does not start when you buy or install it.
Validity starts in Turkey, not at checkout
The plan's validity begins with the first connection to a supported network in Turkey. Buying a week ahead does not cost you a single day of the plan.
180 days to activate
You have 180 days from purchase to activate the plan, so you can buy it well ahead of a trip that is booked months in advance.
Coverage: Istanbul, Antalya and other Turkish cities
The eSIM connects to local networks in Turkey. Coverage is listed for these cities and other cities:
- Istanbul and Ankara
- Antalya, Izmir and Mersin on the coast
- Bursa, Adana, Konya, Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa Whether you need an eSIM in Istanbul for a city weekend or data for a beach holiday near Antalya, both are on the list. Depending on the network operator and the location, the eSIM uses 3G, 4G/LTE or 5G, and speed can be limited under the operator's fair-use rule.
Checklist for the evening before your flight
A few minutes the evening before, and you board with a working Turkey eSIM card already on your phone:
Is your phone ready?
Your phone has to support eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier (SIM lock). If you are unsure, look in the SIM or mobile data settings for an option to add an eSIM.
Buy the plan
On the eSIM page choose Turkey, select a data plan, log in and pay from your Anosim balance. You can top up the balance with cryptocurrency or by bank transfer.
Scan the QR code on Wi-Fi
Scan the QR code while your phone is on Wi-Fi. The code can be used only once: keep the eSIM profile on the phone and never scan the code a second time. The plan stays visible under My eSIM Plans in your account.
Leave the eSIM switched off
Once it is installed, keep the eSIM turned off until you are in Turkey.
After landing: three settings and you are online
Once you are in Turkey, open your phone's settings and:
1. turn the eSIM on,
2. select it as the line for mobile data,
3. allow data roaming for the eSIM.
The eSIM normally finds a local network within one to two minutes. If it does not, restart the phone, turn airplane mode on and off briefly and set network selection to automatic. Still no signal? Our support answers 24/7 via Telegram, website chat and email. Please do not delete the profile to start over, because the QR code cannot be scanned twice.
Staying online on your Turkey trip
A travel eSIM for Turkey covers everything you do with data on the road: maps, translation apps, messengers, uploading holiday photos, streaming in the hotel and internet calls such as WhatsApp calls. Because it is a prepaid eSIM for Turkey, there is no contract and no monthly fee.
Your regular SIM can stay in the phone, so your usual number remains reachable, for example on WhatsApp. Turkey is outside the EU roaming rules, so an EU tariff does not carry its roaming terms there; with the eSIM set as the data line, your home SIM is not needed for mobile internet. Whether you can share data via hotspot depends on the network operator.
SMS codes during your stay in Turkey
The eSIM carries data only and has no phone number, so a verification code has nowhere to arrive. If a service asks for an SMS code while you are in Turkey, take a number from Anosim:
- Activation for one code, for example when you sign up for an app on the spot.
- Rent Service if the same service will ask you to verify again later.
- Rent Number if you want one number for all services during the trip.
The code lands on the number while the eSIM provides the data. If a number is virtual, it is labelled as such in the provider selection.
Travelling on from Turkey?
If your route continues, see the pages for Europe, where one eSIM covers several countries including the UK, and for Egypt. Every other country and region is listed on the eSIM overview.
Frequently asked questions
Should I install the Turkey eSIM before my trip?
Yes. Install it at home on Wi-Fi and turn it on only after landing in Turkey. The plan does not start before the first connection there.
Does the eSIM work in Istanbul and Antalya?
Yes. Both are among the listed cities, together with Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Adana, Konya, Gaziantep, Mersin, Şanlıurfa and other cities.
Can I make normal phone calls with it?
No. The eSIM is data only and has no number. Internet calls through apps such as WhatsApp work over the data connection.
Do I need a passport or ID to buy it?
No. There is no ID check when you buy an eSIM data plan.
Can I use my phone as a hotspot in Turkey?
That depends on the network operator.
I deleted the eSIM profile by mistake. What now?
Do not scan the QR code again, as it works only once. Contact our support via Telegram, website chat or email.
Does EU roaming cover Turkey?
No. Turkey is outside the EU roaming rules, which is one reason many travellers pick an eSIM for Turkey travel.
How long do I have to activate the plan?
180 days from the date of purchase.
